Morbid Messiah (Mex) interview

Welcome Robert to the TOTMB Fanzine’s torture room. First of all, let me congratulate you to the EP, it is pretty brutal.

Thank you for this interview, and thank you for your words and support!

Can you tell us the history of the band in a nutshell? Where all this rage is coming from?

Well, Morbid Messiah began when our drummer, Anubis Sandoval, moved from Cancún to Guadalajara. We all had the idea of making fast and merciless death metal, and luckily we agreed on the atmosphere that Morbid Messiah was going to handle.

Why did you choose music to get rid off all your accumulated energy? Would it be better to get rid off it by some kind of sport activity? Ha-ha!!!

Well, the music is something that has always been with us throughout our lives, we believe in the power of music and the influence it has on who listens to it and what it can transmit.

How did you get into metal music? I guess you did not start listening to death metal straight away.

No, I started listening hard rock and 80´s classics for my parents influence. I started with death metal when my cousin´s husband told me about some death metal bands like Massacra, Obituary, Nihilist, Death, Possessed, etc. My surprise was too big when I heard them, i felt each riff, each rhythm, each scream, and each insane solo.

How old were you when you started playing the guitar? Can you perhaps play on another instrument?

I was 16 years old when i started to play guitar, and no, i can not to play another instrument, but maybe someday, there´s a lot to learn! The band based in Guadalajara, which is the second largest city in Mexico, as far as I know. I read on the internet that the city is also an archdiocese, therefore you can find many churches there.

What do you/ or other band members think about religion?

Well, this is a large theme, but i think that the religion is the worst poison in the human race. Why? Is well known that the religion was the cause of most of troubles and massacres for its greed and thirst of power. Most of religious are incredibly stupid people and blind, but this aint to change.

In 2017 there was a Hungarian metal fest called TOTAL WAR, where another Mexican group played, ARMADA. On the day they played, they were right away there in the morning and were very friendly and good guys. In advance they were drinking whole day, but played a brutal, professional gig. Did you know them? Every Mexican is so direct and friendly? How are you doing with alcohol?

We shared stage in an event in 2016, i know who's Armada.
Well, most of mexican people is like this, funny and friendly, each time that a band comes to Mexico is very well received. Real support is what is missing in Mexico, most of people believe that digital and ilegal downloads are real support for a band, and well, words are unnecesary.
About the alcohol, i don´t considere me an alcoholic, but i love the taste of beer!

These days is not rare if a girl plays in a death metal band, but I have never seen one behind the drums. How can Anubis stand this? Playing drums on a whole gig with such speed can be a real test of strenght for even a man. What is her secret?

She loves what she does, and that is showed in each show, death metal is an important part of us.

Your sound is very deep and has a hideous dark tone like it comes straight from hell. That reminds me of bands like IMMOLATION or INCANTATION. What are your favourites from old school death metal bands?

Sadistic Intent, Autopsy, and Pungent Stench on “For God Your Soul, For Me Your Flesh…” era.

I have also read on the internet that population of Guadalajara is almost one and a half million. Is there a big death metal life out there? Is there any other bands worth the attention?

There's a lot of bands, but unfortunately most of them are following fashions, and they forgot the true essence of what death metal means, and worst, what METAL means. We are very criticized for support only what we believe really deserves support, and because we dont pretend that we like something when it´s not like that, But this is the way it is, there are always those who are against and in favor of something.
 There's a band called Deaths Forsaken (talking of Guadalajara only) ,they know what metal means and they can share that with all people.

Do you care about politics?

No, always think that the politics are shit.

The traditional Mexican music is very famous worldwide. Do you listen to that?

I don't listen to it, but damn! Our regional music is very good in all aspects, it has all, and i am very proud about that.

Do you like movies? If yes, what kind?

I like it very much! I don't consider me a movie expert, even a person who knows about films, but i like to enjoy horror movies, comedy movies, and sometimes suspense.

The "In The Name Of The True Death Metal" EP was released by Godz Ov War Production on tape. How did you find this Polish publisher?

"In The Name Of True Death Metal" was released for ourselves in the CD version, and then for Godz Ov War in tape version.
When we uploaded a few songs on YouTube, i started to share with some friends and people in general, till one day i shared Condemned To Hell Sores to the Godz Ov War´s facebook page, and Greg wrote me telling that he was interested in work with us.
Godz Ov War Productions is a very professional label.

What kind of metal music do you like apart from death metal?

You know, heavy metal, death/grind, thrash metal and sometimes black metal too.

Can be anytime a full-lenght MORBID MESSIAH album expected?

We are working to release our first full lenght in 2018 through Memento Mori.

On which continent would you like to play the most?

In Europe definitely, our music is very well received there, actually we want to play in every country around the world, i like to meet people and i like to travel.

Do you have any kind of hobby apart from music? Do you maybe collect anything?

I am a gastronomy student, i love to cook and share what i do, could says that gastronomy and death metal are my two passions.

Do you know any Hungarian bands? I surely recommend one, check this one out. They are the TYRANT GOATGALDRAKONA. They play brutal, dark death metal, just like you.

I don't know much about hungarian death metal, but definitely i'll do!

The popularity of metal was changing in the last 30-40 years, but death metal stayed always popular. Why do you think it is so? What is your opinion about underground? Do you like fanzines?

Death metal´s popularity is because is the most complete genre in extreme music. Death metal is obscure, grim, wild, aggressive, powerful, fast, slow, dense, and well, it has all.
I think that we can find the best music in the underground. When bands are in underground, they really play and express their feelings in their music, they really do that for passion and not for fashion, their music is most sincere and pure, once a band gets out of the underground and is buyed for a big label, they sell what they are and we can see it on their music, insipid and senseless music. Examples abound about what I told you.
I really like the fanzines, is very fascinating know what the bands think about all.

Do you have any band tattooes? If not, what kind would you get made?

No, i can't have any tattoo because my career is very demanding with that.

To the end I left an interesting question. If you could describe the different style of metal music only by an animal, what would you choose for doom, death, speed, black, thrash metal or goregrind?

Doom = Crow
Death = Lion
Speed = Cheetah
Black = Panther
Thrash  = Puma
Goregrind = Rhino

I´m not good in this, jaja.

Thank you very much for your answers. I wish you more crashing music and endurance for the band. If you think, say something more to our readers.

Thanks to you for the support and the interest to Morbid Messiah! Stay real, do what you love and never do it for fashion, always do it for passion.
Cheers for you all!
