Please tell about the creation of your band! Who brought together the band? Could we say that your previous band, the R.I.P. is the progenitor of MAZE OF TERROR?
Well , Hammer and I was part of the band R.I.P. , but is other way for us, when the band splits, we take another different vision, we start from zero, the idea of Maze of Terror is make a violent thrash metal in the most extreme way possible, with all our influences, southamerican metal, german metal, etc, but in the most professional way possible, and talk about the human malevolence, the distorsions of the human mind, in the biggest way possible, and the most brutal and intense experience possible.
I saw on your facebook page that the South-American metal inspired you mainly. Our crew really like this scene as well. In your opinion what is the difference between the South-American metal and the others? Which bands would you like to mention from South-American bands?
the South American bands make a sound with the elements that had a hand , there are powerful bands that achieved a lot with the few elements , that's where their comes his powe; speed picking, brutal blast beats , so many inventive resources, that's how sounds bands like Parabellum or Vulcano, why they sought to express the brutality in the purest form possible, did not seek technicality, or move masses as in other parts of the world, that's why we are inspire in this sound, we do this for our own satisfaction driving all our resources for brutality like the big guys did before us
Anyway do you listening European or American even Asian bands?
Yeah, of course we listen tons of bands, mentioning all is not possible, and mentioning a few is not fair, we try to be experimental ,Death, Thrash, Doom, Crust, Heavy, Speed, Stoner, we apreciate everything, absorbing like sponges all the music that reaches our ears, lately we listen new bands like us, is important for us listen the new blood in metal, if anyone have some metal to recommend us , please write !!!
What kind of the underground metal life in Peru? Is there any interesting concerts? Are the clubs suitable for underground gigs? What’s up with fanzines? Could you recommend us some remarkable bands and labels from Peru?
I think we have a lot of people to listen underground music, but they dont have interest in the local underground bands or buy music or listen , I think the bangers here need to support more the underground, but well we have good underground labels and organizators and of course good bands !!! Like Evil Spectrum, Cobra, Obscure Evil or Morbid Slaugther,and a big etc; we dont have underground sites to play ussually , so many bands come here in the year the people is happy, but we need more places to underground bands, we have cool zines , comes to my mind „”Psicoterror Zine” or „Soulgrinder zine” or „”Aquelarre Zine” Really cool and interesting !!!
What does underground mean to you?
The real underground for me is the bands and the labels that work without any money for only the love of music, your personal voyage and experience,.... without any hope to make money, underground is an status not an style, underground is when you kick ass musically , but only for your own glory, exist underground punk, underground metal, underground rock, etc.... is for music my friend, everything is music and your personal aspirations, when you not worried about nothing more than play and be happy.
How did you get in touch with this music? Which was your first big favourites?
Before, here there were television programs of varied music, at school I am interested in rock, and naturally then in metal, I listen popular 2000 metal in the beginning. Later I know the underground, my first favorite band was Venom, later I discover so many jewels like Sepultura, Holocausto, Infernal Majesty, but well in these days I want to listen more brutal music possible, I like more Death metal, Crust, and a big Etc, I a great fan of Midnight but my favorite band forever is Venom, because is sound, other great favorite is Trouble, because is lirycs , Actually I really interested in bands like Vampyre, Tribulation, etc, is really fun listen this bands are amazing !, I want to listen more young bands if you have something to share is welcome !
Your first material was „Skullcrusher” EP, which released on a split with AMKEN as well. To which places of the world did this EP get to? What kind of reviews did you get about this material?
Well first to all, Amken are awesome guys, really profesional and cool band, we launched
the ep in 2012, in cdr format via our friend of Capricorn Records, this open oportunities for
us, we make a tour in Bolivia, open for Whiplash, and later in next year we open in a city
Called Arequipa to Destruction, in 2014 during the recordings of the album „Ready to Kill”
the label EBM from Mexico propose us re issue the album in split format with Amken , was
amazing reissue the album in cd pro format, was really cool deal.
Your brutal debut album released in 2016, called „Ready To Kill”. I think in this material there are a lot of hate! Could you tell about the circumstance of the recording? What kind of atmosphere was at the studio? Where did you record the album?
Well was really quiet, In contrast to the music, there were challenges but we already knew very well from the experience of recording thanks to our past recordings and previous bands, it was a happy process, we took good time to be calm and channel the ideas, we appreciate the support of the studio, they help us so much in what we planned, we are gratefull
The cover of the album and the layout are really great! If I know it right you did the layout. Could you tell about it? Have you ever did works like this for other bands?
Well we are really gratefull with the artist Mario Lopez, the artwork is amazing , Mario works with bands like Tungsteno, Speedbreaker, Impalers, Evil Invaders, I only do the layout for the tape version of the disc, we are really happy for the artwork is exactly the original Idea, this gargoyles flyng to the light, ready to kill everyone!!!.
I read just good reviews about this album. Are you satisfied absolutely with this album as well?
Really, absolutelly, we are gratefull with the reviews and the support and every guy to buys the album, we are an small band and we really gratefull with all the support, the bangers, the labels, but well , we planned make an most brutal albums in the next recordings, we have a new tape split with our comrades, Witchaven from Usa via Nero One Records, is more obscure, and I recommend your listen my friend !.
This album released on every format. What is more this is available two versions on tape. Which is your favourite format? Do you listening your music at home?
We are really gratefull for this, is really complicated edit music now, difficult for many bands Because the people dont buy albums ussually, me either before , but I try nowadays, I have a little collection now of new bands and old bands, because I think is more important gives support than ask , I ussually send music to different sites and people to listen and now thw band because share is an important part of make music, and I open to listen too, if someone have music to listen or sell me, only write me, because is important part than sometimes many guys forget, but well, We edit our album Ready to Kill in Cd and Lp via Empire Records from Belgium, later in tape format via P18 Records, soon is available in tape too via Thundersteel Records, and we hope a new edition in Cd via Vile Pleasures, and well My favorite Format is the tape, is more easy to keep and the format and the size looks really awesome in a good desing really practical to see when you start to listen in first time, I really love the tapes..
You respond about the lyrics, right? Do you need something special spiritual condition to writing the lyrics or is this comes naturally? What do you writing about?
Our lyrics are brutal like all the letters in the metal, but we especially inspire in the day-to-day struggle, we are workers, we are people who are, we are not interested in the lack of support, but there are always obstacle, sometimes the anger reinforces it, when making the music more violent, sometimes it is written with a brutality on the wall, which has the edge of the enemy's eye, we are anarchists but many times the state is your enemy the barrier between you and your aspirations, or even sometimes the same metal scene can be, it is a lonely path, it is part of our inspiration, to remain standing first of all. we try to make lyrics different every time, we tell creepy histories, like witchcraft, mitology, histories of freedom, for example, Lycanthropes is an history inspired in an ancient tribe that fight an army of invaders taken the power of the nature, in a most brutal way possible, or songs like Gilles de Rais that narrates the history of this brutal man and his sadistic pleasures and all his obsesion with the killing
The theme of „Gilles De Rais” is really match to your music. Could you tell about from who/what is about this song for who never heard the name of the mad baron?
Gilles de Rais was a baron in the medieval age , was a really great military man, was a really great follower of Joan of Arc, was an strategic warrior and powerfull man of war, but this was because his mind was really destroyed,when his madness could not be satisfied in the war, his ambition to kill moved to the the women, the children, in his madness, he sought the power of darkness to have eternal life, power, richness which was an excuse to kill and kill mercilessly something that happens even today with a lot of powerful people, Who gets carried away by the misfortune of ambition and evil , this song was written by the drummer of the band, we decided to do it the way we did, because and a powerful story that we like to play live really , is the favorite of the band.
Would you like to kill people if you can do it? Let us assume that it would be legal and the man would be deserve to die…
Well really yes, because , you have two kind of people, people like you and me, people who want happiness , try to make art, try to make a future, and other kind of people, killers, rapist, racist, terrorist, and so many pieces of shit, I can´t , but if I would do, I only pull the trigger, without any remorse, is not an sport is a necesary way to make a better world, sometimes our society pulls people to madness every day, but you have choices, this world is not unfair, is an error say the world is unfair, the men are unfair, but the life give us an good propose, is only a question to take it an do good things
I think the best song from the album is „Lycanthropes”, which has got a video clip. Could you tell about it? What experience was the filming? Would you like to make some new video clips in the future?
Was Really simple and easy, we collaborate with a documentary about metal in our city and the filmmakers collaborating making the video for us, we are very grateful, it is a simple video, it was fun but next time we wanted to do something darker and worked, I dont know if in the next album, but it is something that we will take the time to think well.
I have got your album on yellow tape version witch slipcase and pin, which was released by P-18 Records. How did you get in touch with this label? Are you satisfied with their work?
My friends of P18 records are amazing guys , they make an awesome and great job with the tapes, was amazing and cool, we are really satisfied, we even keep showing our material because we are an small band to seek the people listen our noise, and spread our ideas, we contact with them, and they make the deal, was amazing and cool!!!
What is the method of the songwriting in your band? Are you working at home or are the songs form shape at the rehearsal room? Who is the main songwriter?
We Usually start ideas in independent form, we are really busy all the week , we joint in the sundays in my home to rehearsal , later we write the partitures, and make the noise, everything start with a name of a song, later comes the riff, the really hard work is the practice, long time ago I make our rehearsal room in my house, my neightbors hate us, but, fuck to all of them, sometimes we only practice our setlist but in days like these we work only in compose and make new songs, we try to be methodical and proffesional in every step.
Do you spend your freetime together and drinking besides the band’s things? Are the booze popular in your band? Do you drinking during rehealsal or do you do the rehealsals seriously?
We are really disciplined, but usually is a good idea relaxing during a rehearsal with a cold beer, or weed, we ussually not drink till be drunk, but is good in relaxing moments, we invite friends and drink with them, in the moments to compose we try to be more radical to make our noise, our time is busy, we work so hard everyday , we try to keep our mind in the light.
Could you tell us something brutal drunken story what was happened with you or your band?
Usually the tours are not so fun for the time and the pressure that everything works good, before and after, is good but not a relaxing moment, but We play in 2012 open for Whiplash in a city called Cochabamba in Bolivia, was the last date for an tour, we play well the people support us really well, and we see later Whiplash in first time, one of favorite bands, I will share you a video of "burning of atlanta" later, we drink till death of happyness was really cool , I remmenber not much, I make dirty things with a girl, and sells cds completelly drunk , but this works so well, we sell tons of material that day, was a really good gig and a really good day.
Relatively you play concerts often. Where and with whom did you share the stage? Have you ever been on bigger tour or is it unaccomplishable because of private life? Have you ever play in other continent besides South-America?
Before we plays every month 1, 2 or sometimes 4 times, but well later our requirements are more big, is difficult plays here, the people are more focused in the big bands , we like touring every day but in the last 3 years we concentrates in make 1 gig in other country for year, because the money and the works, we keep the money for recordings and make music, but to keep on the road we touring in Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia, we have plans for more, we love the idea to play in Europa, or Usa , but we take the time to make more music ,. is more important the albums for us, and well we like to play in every continent, is a dream for me play in Egipt, would a really cool the idea
Your last release was a split with WITCHAVEN. How did this cooperation form shape?
We contact with Nero One Records long time ago before the album was launched, they propose us an 7" ep , two songs, but we want share our recording with a cool band , and says propose us the idea for the split with Witchaven, We knows the band long time ago they are amazing I really like his sound and agresivity, was absolute cool make an split with guys like them, amazing.
There is a new track on that split, called „The Hunger”, which is an another killer song from you! Could you tell about this song? Who wrote it? What are the lyrics about?
Well Our influences are in constant change, we keep songs in secret for the moment,we like the idea to make some songs with a dark and brutal atmosfera different to other songs, to experiment somethings different, the song is inspired in the old movie „The Hunger” but at the same times in the movie „30 days in darkness” is about this tribe of Vampyres bored about the life , but at the same time, they are still addicted for this, they are addicted to what life offers, they stole lives, but this it does not allow them to really live. they are only corpses with stolen lives, is an allegory of the addictions
What are the future plans of MAZE OF TERROR? Are you already working on the new album?
We Planned next an Demo to experiment more with other sound but more brutality, we work to release our secret songs in splits, but well is premature even, at the same time we work on an second album, with a most brutal ways, than before, we want to make a brutal obscure and extreme noise in the next record.
